Job summary

Derby Recreation Commission is seeking a Program Coordinator to organize and oversee after school programs and large-scale special events at the Oaklawn Activity Center. The role requires day, evening, and weekend work based on schedules.

You will manage curricula, events, licensing compliance, staff supervision, and vendor relationships while collaborating with the community and city partners to deliver engaging programs for all ages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field preferred.
• 2+ years experience in recreation or special events coordination.
• Experience with childcare and/or high risk youths is beneficial.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as required by schedule.
• Pass a KBI criminal background check; valid driver’s license.
• CPR/First Aid/ AED certifications preferred (obtain within 6 months).

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning and implementation of the Oaklawn After School Program curriculum.
• Oversee planning and implementation of Summer Primetime recreation with USD 260.
• Maintain KDHE license renewal and staff/child compliance for the program.
• Plan and implement Oaklawn special events and programs.
• Hire, train and supervise youth recreation staff and instructors.
• Develop and manage budgets for events and programs.
• Work with vendors, venues, and community partners; obtain quotes and bids.
• Coordinate marketing materials with Supervisors and Marketing Director.
• Prepare reports and presentations as required.
