Job summary

City of Astoria is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to help develop, promote, and implement recreation programs across parks, facilities, and events. This generalist role supports aquatic, fitness, youth and adult sports, and community events with flexibility to adapt to department priorities.

The position emphasizes collaboration with staff, volunteers, and local organizations, along with responsible program delivery, safety, and quality customer service for residents and visitors.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of recreation programming, safety rules, policies and procedures.
• Specific knowledge of Astoria's Parks system and programming.
• Excellent verbal communication for all ages.
• Excellent written communication for program handbooks and flyers.
• Creativity to develop new programming and adapt existing programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, promotion, and implementation of recreation programs, events, and facility operations.
• Support daily facility operations and administrative tasks.
• Help recruit, train, and guide part‑time staff and volunteers.
• Collaborate with community partners to develop cooperative programming.
• Track inventory and maintain equipment in good condition.
