Job summary

Mparks is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to oversee youth, family, and senior programming under the supervision of the Senior and Family Recreation Director. Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Senior and Family Recreation Director and/or Assistant Director, coordinates, supervises, plans, develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive community programs, services and outreach. Provides supervisory responsibility for staff, volunteers and contractual employees as assigned. Also, performs related work as required. The Recreation Coordinator will program for youth, family, and senior activities.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for coordinating, budgeting, marketing, and coordinating equipment/supplies, plus supervising and training seasonal staff and volunteers for recreation and senior programming. Duties include planning, designing and coordinating the production of marketing tools, brochures and flyers, creating content for social media platforms, and designing banners and signage for programs. The position will require the pursuit of additional resources through partnership/sponsorship, fundraising or grant opportunities. The Recreation Coordinator will serve the full community through programs and events.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires knowledge of special event planning, instructional/contractual programs and recreation services. Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports according to accepted standards, works effectively independently or as a member of a team, schedules workloads and prioritizes assignments, understands and follows complex oral and written instructions and effectively communicates orally and in writing. An individual in this position must be comfortable and competent with public speaking. Also, an individual must be able to work a flexible schedule: early morning, evenings and weekends as programs designate.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Gerontology, or a field related to municipal recreation programming. Three years of full time or six years of part time experience in municipal or senior citizen related programming. National Certification (CPRP) is preferred. Applicant(s) will possess the following certifications: National Certification (CPRP) within two years of hire, American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED within six months of hire. Successful completion of Civil Service Examination is required, and applicant(s) must meet all requirements set forth in the Employees Civil Service Ordinance.
