Job summary

DECC in Duluth is seeking an Event Cook to join our catering team on a part-time, event-driven schedule. You will prepare meals, portions, and garnishes, while maintaining safety and high quality across hot and cold items.

The role requires at least one year of cooking or prep experience, strong teamwork, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Uniforms are provided; shifts include day, afternoon, evenings, and some holidays.

Qualifications

• At least one year of cooking or prep cook experience in the food service industry.
• Basic understanding of sanitation and workplace safety regulations.
• Ability to move quickly to different areas within the facility.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals and meal ingredients as directed by the Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef.
• Prepare produce by peeling, cutting, and portioning.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety, food handling, and hygiene codes and standards.
• Assist with unloading, inspection, and storage of raw ingredients and supplies.
• Responsible for quality and quantity of production of hot and cold foods with proper rotation practices.
• Prepare batches of food that are cooked to order or kept warm until ordered and sold; this may include burgers or fried chicken.
• Multitask by cooking several different orders at once and ensure items follow customer instructions.
• Operate large-volume cooking equipment (broilers, grills, fryers, ovens, pizza ovens).
• Assemble, distribute, decorate, and garnish all prepared foods with attention to presentation.
• Maintain clean work areas and report maintenance issues to supervisor.
