Job summary

Johnson County Community College seeks non-credit instructors to teach English to non-native speakers at JCAE locations (West Park and Center of Grace). The role focuses on reading, vocabulary, listening, speaking, writing and grammar in a student-centered classroom.

Responsibilities include weekly lesson plans, curriculum implementation, attendance tracking, onboarding new students, and collaboration in staff development; daytime Tue/Thu 8:30 AM–12:30 PM, with occasional fill-ins as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Education/ESL or related
• TESOL certificate preferred
• Master's degree in teaching English as a Learning Language preferred
• Experience teaching adult learners in a classroom setting
• Ability to create quality digital lesson plans and use LMS tools

Responsibilities

• Create and submit weekly lesson plans using provided templates
• Implement curriculum emphasizing life, workplace, digital literacy, civics and more
• Teach ELL in a student-centered classroom at JCAE locations
• Maintain attendance records and student data
• Conduct initial and ongoing learner conferences to discuss goals
• Assist with new student onboarding and testing
• Participate in staff development and mandatory trainings
• Schedule and participate in observations and follow-up reviews
• Cover for other instructors as needed
