Job summary

YMCA Texas seeks a dedicated group fitness instructor to lead energizing classes in a welcoming, inclusive setting. You will promote member wellness, adapt to varied abilities, and help foster a supportive community within the Y.

The role requires knowledge of equipment, wellness techniques, and ongoing certification maintenance. Safety, inclusivity, and adherence to YMCA policies are essential to success.

Qualifications

• One year of experience instructing group wellness classes preferred.
• General knowledge of group exercise equipment, sound systems, cardio and strength training.
• Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate group interaction and teamwork.
• National certification in group fitness or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification required or obtained within six months.
• Additional certifications in Group Cycling, Les Mills, Pilates, Yoga, ZUMBA, etc. required.
• Certifications due within first week: Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Communications.
• Certifications due within first 60 days: CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing group fitness classes safely and engagingly as directed by supervisor.
• Answer member questions to support goal achievement and wellness knowledge.
• Build genuine relationships and foster community among members and staff.
• Observe and adapt classes to accommodate varied abilities and needs.
• Celebrate participant achievements and track attendance accurately.
• Begin each class with an inspirational thought or story.
• Attend required staff meetings and follow YMCA policies; respond to emergencies.
• Maintain certifications through ongoing education and stay current with trends.
• Do not diagnose injuries or promote outside products; no merch promotion.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
