Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead beginner-friendly classes and teach participants the benefits of exercise in a safe, engaging environment for all ages and skill levels. You will arrive early, set up equipment, monitor safety, and uphold YMCA policies while fostering an inclusive, welcoming culture for members and guests.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 0–1 year fitness/teaching experience, and current First Aid/CPR certifications preferred

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old and have beginner-level fitness skills with 0–1 year of fitness/teaching experience.
Nationally recognized certification in specialty area (YMCA Group Exercise, Indoor Cycling, Zumba, etc.) is preferred or must audition before teaching.
Current First Aid/ CPR certifications preferred (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).

Responsibilities

Protect health, safety, and welfare of participants; keep the fitness area safe and equipment clean.
Lead and/or co-teach group classes as designated; arrive 7–10 minutes early and start on time.
Answer questions, provide information about programs, and assist members with fitness guidance.
Set up and put away equipment; submit maintenance requests as needed.
