Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Social Services in Columbia seeks an internal candidate to support the Economic Services division in Richland County. The role focuses on SNAP, TANF, and related programs, including interviewing, eligibility determinations, and renewals.

Responsibilities

• Provides services in accordance with federal and state laws and agency policies in SNAP, ESAP, SCCAP, and TANF programs.
• Conducts SNAP and TANF quality interviews via phone or face-to-face.
• Processes SNAP and TANF applications and renewals by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits.
• Manages ABAWD caseload, including notices and tracking for SNAP eligibility.
• Maintains case records in the agency system, documents activities, and prepares reports.
• Identifies and documents overpayments and refers to the Benefit Integrity Unit.
• Performs Red Cross duty or emergency shelter services as directed.
• Protects PII and safeguards agency networks and data.

Job Duties:

• The provides services in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and agency policies and procedures, performing general work duties related to the administration of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) includes ESAP (Elderly Simplified Applications Project) and SCCAP (South Carolina Combined Application), and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) programs in the Economic Service Division in the county to help restore and improve customer financial stability.
• Conducts SNAP and/or TANF quality interviews to include both phone and face-to-face interviews for SANP and/or TANF applications and/or renewals.
• Processes SNAP and/or TANF applications and/or renewals by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits if applicable, and processes SNAP and/or TANF six months renewals and changes by redetermining eligibility and reauthorizing benefits if applicable.
• Manages ABAWD (Able-Bodied Adult without Dependents) caseload by sending required notices, updating ABAWD tracking system, and determining SNAP eligibility for assigned ABAWD cases. Interprets social services programs to clients as needed. Keeps abreast of state, federal, and agency program regulations and policies.
• Processes system generated alerts (SNAP, TANF, ESAP, and SCCAP) for county of residence as well as any alerts associated with your caseload.
• Maintains case records and files in agency designated computer system for documentation and auditing purposes as required by agency policy in a confidential, timely and accurate manner. Documents client work participation activities in agency designated system. Enters timely documentation in SCOSA of events/activities that may affect clients continued eligibility for benefits. Prepares reports as requested by the supervisor or otherwise required and follows program policies.
• Identifies and documents over payments and make at least 3 possible claims referrals to the Benefit Integrity Unit; prepares supporting documents for Fair Hearings. Participates in training and supervisory meetings or staff meetings as required.
• Performs Red Cross duty or other emergency shelter duty/services as directed.
• Ensures that personal identifying information (PII) is properly used, accessed, gathered, shared, and disposed. Protects the agency networks and applications by safeguarding systems, equipment, and data.
