Job summary

United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador Counties seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with disabilities, building practical skills and providing personal care under supervision.

You will perform gait guidance, daily living tasks, and behavior support while following approved techniques. Part‑time onsite in Stockton with a focus on safety and respectful, professional interaction.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Able to read/write English; follow instructions.
• Basic math skills required.
• Working knowledge of personal computers is desirable.
• Valid CDL and clean driving record.
• Punctual, dependable, ethical, customer‑service oriented; able to work independently and with others.
• Sensitive to diversity and knowledgeable about disabilities, seizure awareness.
• Maintain First Aid/CPR and meet state licensing standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with disabilities in building practical, everyday skills.
• Provide personal care under program management.
• Follow safety protocols for lifting, transferring and positioning.
• Document progress notes and required records.

Role Summary

Key responsibilities include functional skills training, personal care assistance, safe lifting/positioning/transferring, behavior support using approved techniques, clear documentation, and staying calm and professional in high-stress situations.

Required qualifications/skills:

• - High school diploma or GED (experience in day/residential disability services preferred)
• - Read, write, and understand English; strong verbal/written communication; follow instructions
• - Basic math skills
• - Working knowledge of personal computers (highly desirable)
• - Valid CDL and clean driving record
• - Punctual, dependable, ethical, and customer-service focused; able to work independently and collaboratively
• - Respectful and sensitive to diversity; general knowledge of developmental/physical disabilities, including seizure awareness
• - Maintain First Aid/CPR and meet California Community Care Licensing personnel standards

A Typical Shift

You’ll follow a set Monday–Friday part-time schedule onsite in Stockton, starting by checking in with program leadership and reviewing the day’s plan. Throughout the shift, you move between structured activities and hands‑on support, adjusting your approach to each person’s pace and goals. You’ll spend time tracking progress notes and completing required records, coordinating with teammates, and keeping an eye on safety and comfort. Some moments are routine and steady; others require quick thinking, patience, and a calm presence. By the end of the day, you’ll wrap up documentation, communicate key updates, and help ensure a smooth handoff for continued support.
