Job summary

Estes-Express-Lines in Omaha, NE is seeking a candidate to enroll in our driver trainee program. You will safely handle and maneuver trailers, load freight with forklift or pallet jack, and help in yard operations.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license with willingness to obtain CDL Learner permit, and passing FMCSA and background checks. Physical requirements include lifting 70 lbs and working outdoors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent background.
• Must be able to participate in driver trainee program.
• Must be 21 years of age or older per FMCSA regulations.
• Must have an outstanding Estes record with no final written warnings in 90 days.
• Must maintain an acceptable MVR with no disqualifying offenses.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and obtain a CDL Learner permit if accepted.
• Must enroll in Estes sponsored driving school for the region.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the service center and meet FMCSA requirements.
• Must meet the minimum physical qualifications for a driver position.
• Ability to operate a forklift (7500 lb).
• Must be able to lift ~70 lbs and perform related physical tasks.
• Must pass FMCSA pre-employment drug screen and post-employment tests.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other large equipment in the yard.
• Cube, load and unload freight using forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck.
• Strap, brace and secure freight to prevent damage or shifting.
• Record the condition of freight on arrival at the service center.
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of yard and dock equipment.
• Set up, break down and hook trailers safely.
• Ensure pup trailers have tilt bar lowered prior to loading.
• Raise and lower landing gear.
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; report to management.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Report maintenance issues to Fleet Services or supervision.
• Work the dock at least five hours per week in addition to yard duties as jockey/hostler.
• Clock time using Kronos and track dock vs jockey hours.
• Maintain regular attendance; perform other duties as assigned.
