Job summary

PowerSecure, a Southern Company subsidiary, is seeking a Driver (Conversion Temp to Direct Hire) at our Durham, NC location. You will make deliveries within a 2–4 hour radius, assist with loading/unloading, and ensure cargo is secured in transit.

Requirements include a Class A CDL with at least 1 year of driving experience, ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen, and a clean driving record. The role may involve warehouse duties when not driving, with opportunities for full-time Direct Hire.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Class A CDL with at least 1 year of driving experience.
• Must pass DOT physical and drug screen at orientation.
• No DUI/DWI in past 5 years; clean driving record.
• Strong time-keeping and reference checks on request.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with PMs and customers.
• Warehouse/rigging/shipping/receiving experience is a plus.
• Must be able to operate basic computer systems.
• Knowledge of DOT and Hazmat regulations.
• Willing to perform shipping/receiving duties when not driving.

Responsibilities

• Make deliveries within a 2–4 hour radius from base.
• Assist loading/unloading and secure cargo.
• Ensure cargo properly secured before departure.
• Follow procedures and quality standards.
• Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods.
• Experience with hauling dry van, flatbed, and step deck trailers.
• Responsible for scheduling and tracking all preventative maintenance for the fleet.
• Coordinate with team lead on pickups, delays, emergencies, and other information.
• All other duties as assigned.

Description

Minimum Qualifications

• Class A CDL with minimum of 1 year driving experience.
• Be able to pass DOT Physical and Drug screen given at orientation
• No DUI's or DWI's in the past 5 years
• Clean driving record required
• Good time keeping skills
• Be able to provide good references upon request
• Strong professional driver with good interpersonal skills who does not mind interacting with PM’s and in some cases the customer.
• 2 years of Warehouse, Rigging, Shipping and Receiving experience is a plus.
• Ability to make critical decisions while under pressure
• Must have basic computer skills
• Strong knowledge of DOT and Hazmat regulations
• When not driving this individual will be required to perform shipping and receiving functions, so warehouse experience is strongly suggested.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Make deliveries within a 2-4-hour radius from our base of operation.
• Assist in loading and unloading trucks retrieving items in a safe manner.
• Ensure all cargo is properly secured prior to leaving dock or loading area.
• Comply with all procedures and quality.
• Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods
• Experience with hauling dry van, flatbed, and step deck trailers.
• Responsible for scheduling and tracking all preventative maintenance for the fleet.
• Communicate with team lead regarding pick-ups and drop off, delays, emergencies, and other relevant information.
• All other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
• Drive for long periods of time within DOT guidelines.
• Exposure to weather, noise intensity level, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wet and/or humid, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
