Job summary

PowerSecure, a Southern Company subsidiary, is hiring a Driver for conversion from temp to direct hire at our on-site location in Durham, NC. The role requires a Class A CDL with at least 1 year of driving experience and DOT regulatory knowledge, plus basic computer skills and strong customer interaction abilities.

Responsibilities include delivering within a 2-4 hour radius, loading/unloading, cargo securing, and coordinating with the team lead on pickups, delays, and emergencies; warehouse

Qualifications

  • CDL Class A with at least 1 year of driving experience.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical and pre-employment drug screen.
  • No DUI/DWI in the past 5 years.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Strong time-keeping and references available on request.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with PMs and customers.
  • Warehouse, rigging, shipping/receiving experience is a plus.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT and Hazmat regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Make deliveries within a 2-4 hour radius.
  • Assist in loading/unloading and secure cargo.
  • Ensure cargo is secured before leaving dock.
  • Follow procedures and quality standards.
  • Work with limited supervision using standardized methods.
  • Haul dry van, flatbed, and step deck trailers.
  • Schedule and track fleet preventative maintenance.
  • Communicate pick-ups, delays, and emergencies to team lead.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Description
Minimum Qualifications
  • Class A CDL with minimum of 1 year driving experience.
  • Be able to pass DOT Physical and Drug screen given at orientation
  • No DUI's or DWI's in the past 5 years
  • Clean driving record required
  • Good time keeping skills
  • Be able to provide good references upon request
  • Strong professional driver with good interpersonal skills who does not mind interacting with PM’s and in some cases the customer.
  • 2 years of Warehouse, Rigging, Shipping and Receiving experience is a plus.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while under pressure
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Strong knowledge of DOT and Hazmat regulations
  • When not driving this individual will be required to perform shipping and receiving functions, so warehouse experience is strongly suggested.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Make deliveries within a 2-4-hour radius from our base of operation.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks retrieving items in a safe manner.
  • Ensure all cargo is properly secured prior to leaving dock or loading area.
  • Comply with all procedures and quality.
  • Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods
  • Experience with hauling dry van, flatbed, and step deck trailers.
  • Responsible for scheduling and tracking all preventative maintenance for the fleet.
  • Communicate with team lead regarding pick-ups and drop off, delays, emergencies, and other relevant information.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Drive for long periods of time within DOT guidelines.
  • Exposure to weather, noise intensity level, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wet and/or humid, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
