Job summary

Office of the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield, IL is seeking a Motor Vehicle Regulations Technician I to review and analyze files related to driving privileges and vehicle registrations. You will process applications, advise facilities by phone, and ensure issuance follows Central Issuance rules.

Requires a high school diploma and at least one year of clerical experience handling laws or regulations. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Requires high school completion and 1 year clerical experience dealing with laws, rules or regulations.
• Knowledge of Illinois Vehicle Code chapters 3, 6, 7 and/or 11.
• Ability to analyze difficult cases and render decisions concerning the denial or reinstatement of driving or vehicle registration privileges.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the public.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and review driver’s license/ID applications and/or exception reports to determine error and card eligibility.
• Provide routine technical information via telephone to customers and facilities regarding record corrections and card status.
• Authorize cancellations to applicants for non-compliance and clear cancellations when compliant.
• Initiate correspondence to applicants for corrected DL/ID prior to issuance.
• Work independently and with a team to ensure Central Issuance rules are applied consistently.
• Research and process refund requests as needed.
