Job summary

Texas Department of Public Safety, Driver License Division, is seeking a License Specialist for the Fort Worth Mega Center. The role involves processing license and permit applications, answering questions about driver license laws, and administering tests to applicants.

Weekend work may be required, and hours can begin as early as 7:00 am and end as late as 8:00 pm. Employee duties include handling payments, taking photos, and advising on licensing requirements.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of general office, volunteer (clerical), or face-to-face/over-the-phone customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Meets and deals with the general public in professional and courteous manner; answers general questions pertaining to applications for various types of driver licenses and ID cards, questions pertaining to traffic laws, driver license, CDL, and safety responsibilities.
• Receives and reviews license and permit applications, duplicates, modifications and renewals.
• Determines the legal needs and requirements of driver license and ID card applicants; screens applications; approves applications based on regulations and policies.
• Performs basic checks of driving capabilities and eyesight; refers for medical evaluation as needed.
• Issues licenses and permits, collects fees, and ensures receipts balance; captures applicant photos, signatures, and fingerprints.
• Administers tests (written, driving) and interprets licensing requirements; may translate for foreign language speakers.
• May travel to other offices for training; may work extended hours or weekends; may wear a body-worn camera.
