Job summary

Texas Department of Public Safety's Driver License Division is seeking a License Specialist in Cuero to perform journey-level licensing and permitting work in a field office. You will review applications, administer tests, communicate licensing requirements, and handle customer questions in a high-volume environment.

Essential duties include processing applications, determining eligibility, and preparing forms while complying with policies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of general office, clerical, or customer service experience; cash handling preferred.
• Valid driver license required; Texas license within 90 days if coming from out of state; 30 days if moving within Texas.
• Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) certification must be obtained within 45 days; recertify per FMCSA requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAPPS/SharePoint; ability to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Meets and deals with the general public; answers questions and reviews license/permit applications.
• Determines the legal needs and approves applications based on regulations and policies.
• Performs basic checks of driving capabilities and vision; refers for further evaluation as needed.
• Inspects vehicles for safety prior to road test; explains road test basics to applicants.
• Issues licenses/permits, collects fees, and records data in systems.
