Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a driver/operator to become proficient in operating tractor-trailer combinations while performing dock duties and forklift operations. The role focuses on safety, pre/post-trip inspections, and freight handling in a fast-paced environment.

You will engage in loading/unloading, secure freight, verify paperwork, and follow Dispatch instructions. Strong attention to safety, DOT compliance, and customer service are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of ~100 pounds, several times a day.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding per DOT requirements.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow all laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
