Job summary

HDR is seeking a Drinking Water Market Sector Business Development Director to drive top-line growth across HDR geographies, coordinating with Market Sector and Regional leadership and client managers. The role focuses on strategy, pursuit leadership, and cross-sector collaboration to expand HDR’s presence in drinking water markets.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience in drinking water planning and engineering, strong leadership and sales capabilities, and a history of delivering complex

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years relevant industry experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program.
• Maintain a professional engineering registration.
• Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies.
• Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person.
• Demonstrated experience in growing programs in new or highly competitive markets.
• Demonstrated experience in winning high-value contracts in the A/E/C industry.
• Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of market sector strategies and coordinate with senior leadership.
• Act as Client Manager for selected key clients within the Sector.
• Lead pursuit strategies, proposal development, and interview preparation.
• Promote HDR services to Drinking Water clients across geographies.
• Support regional leadership in delivery and market sector initiatives.
• Mentor staff and assist with recruiting and development.
