Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Drafter 1 to perform 2D drafting for natural gas distribution and transmission projects, using AutoCAD to create P&IDs and isometrics from sketches and engineering instructions.

You will assist with project setup in SAP and GIS, review plans for accuracy, and maintain records of design changes while collaborating with Engineers, Designers, and other stakeholders on projects of varying scope.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years of relevant drafting experience.
• Basic understanding of Plant 2D Medium.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Familiarity with GIS software.

Job description

Job Summary The Drafter 1 is responsible for making 2D changes as outlined on technical drawings of natural gas distribution and/or transmission pipelines or facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software. In addition, the Drafter 1 creates, modifies and controls detailed drawings from sketches, plans and written instructions generally provided by the Engineering team. The Drafter 1 will collaborate with Engineering, Designers, and other key stakeholders on projects of varying scopes and sizes.

Essential Functions

• Assist the Engineer with basic project setup within SAP as well as GIS and CAD.
• Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to ensure accurate drafting.
• Use AutoCAD to produce accurate and clear technical drawings and schematics (P&IDs, Isometrics) for natural gas distribution systems in 2D from provided redlines.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of design changes, revisions, and updates to ensure documentation is up to date.
• Can work autonomously but will ask frequent questions to ensure proper direction from the Designers or Engineering team.
• Integrate GIS data for a given project footprint.
• Possible support of Engineering/Operations employees in emergency situations along with other courses of business operations.
• Possible need to demonstrate ability to work through emergency outage management, possibly providing after-hours support.

Required Qualifications For Position

• 1+ years of relevant job experience
• Basic understanding of Plant 2D Medium
• Demonstrated ability to work well in team environment
• High Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• High Familiarity with GIS software

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

• Associate's Degree Drafting, Engineering Technology or related field
• Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulatory guidelines
• Basic understanding of Engineering and Construction principles

Salary Range*: $54,000.00 - $75,500.00 *The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
