Job summary

American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, DC, seeks a Development Associate to support the Individual Giving team by managing donor records, coordinating communications, and advancing fundraising initiatives.

The role emphasizes collaborative work with scholars and donors, heavy database activity in Salesforce, reporting, and supporting moves-management and proposal development in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of full-time fundraising experience.
• Ability to write clearly and work under pressure.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Familiarity with donor databases and AEI’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain donor and prospect records in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
• Record interactions of AEI staff and scholars with donors and prospective donors in Salesforce.
• Ensure that records of donor gifts, pledges, proposals, and other fundraising activities are up-to-date.
• Develop, pull, and manage complex Salesforce reports, lists, and queries to support fundraising initiatives and strategic projects.
• Apply donor strategy to draft and refine individualized and mass communications.
• Support moves-management program by researching prospective donors and updating proposals.
• Identify, research, and cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, collaborating with supervisors and gift officers.
• Edit, review, and prepare proposals, briefings, and other fundraising materials.
• Assist in identifying funding opportunities and contribute to proposal development for prospective donors.
• Process, code, and record daily gifts, pledges, and related donor transactions; ensure timely entry.
• Develop and execute strategic database initiatives and moves-management activities.
• Staff fundraising events in a support role; assist with donor engagement and event logistics.
