Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ seeks a Development Officer- Individual Giving to cultivate, solicit, retain, upgrade, and steward a portfolio of donors annually. This role bridges annual giving and Major Gifts, building deep donor relationships and guiding potential major gifts.

Expect disciplined portfolio management, proactive donor outreach, and collaborative work with BGCAZ’s Resource Development team.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relations, sales, business development, or another relationship-centered field.
• Experience cultivating relationships and confidently making financial asks or closing commitments.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing a significant portfolio with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manages an assigned portfolio of approximately 150-250 individual donors and qualified prospects.
• Develop individualized cultivation, solicitation, upgrade, renewal, and stewardship strategies for portfolio members.
• Maintains consistent, meaningful contact with donors through meetings, calls, visits, events, email, and other engagement opportunities.
• Builds understanding of each donor’s interests, history, motivation, and philanthropic potential.
• Proactively identifies lapsed and under-engaged donors with potential for reactivation or increased investment.
• Maintains an active moves-management strategy for every qualified donor in the portfolio.
• Personally solicits annual, leadership-level, and special philanthropic investments.
• Works toward an annual portfolio revenue expectation of approximately $750,000 when fully ramped.
• Increases donor retention and value through renewal and upgrade strategies.
• Evaluates donors and prospects using giving history, engagement, interests, capacity, and relationship strength.
• Qualifies new prospects for inclusion in the portfolio.
• Identifies donors with potential to become major-gift investors and transitions them to Major Gifts Team.
• Maintains revenue projections and next-step strategies for donors.
• Develops a healthy pipeline of future donors beyond annual renewals.
• Collaborates with leadership on strategy to acquire and convert new donors.
• Ensures donors understand impact of philanthropy and feel connected to BGCAZ’s mission.
• Coordinates with donor stewardship to create meaningful experiences, recognition, and impact reporting.
• Personalizes stewardship based on donor interests and motivations.
• Serves as an ambassador for BGCAZ and its programs, priorities, outcomes, and funding needs.
• Maintains timely donor records and moves in CRM; uses data to forecast revenue.
• Participates in portfolio reviews and scorecard discussions.
• Provides updates on revenue, donor movement, solicitations, retention, upgrades, and pipeline health.
