Job summary

Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. in Oelwein, IA is seeking a part-time associate to assist customers and manage register transactions, donation intake, sorting, and merchandise stocking. You’ll handle donations, operate the cash register, and help with loading/unloading and upkeep tasks.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Minimum of 2 years of any combination of military service, high school, or related full-time employment may substitute.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Possess a positive attitude and infect others with similar enthusiasm.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull fifty pounds with assistance.
• Loyalty to the agency and its mission and policies.
• Reliable transportation. Ability to work a flexible schedule at multiple locations including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be willing to obtain a forklift license if able.
• Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers immediately upon entering store and ensures a positive shopping experience.
• Sorts and grades donations and shipments to maintain well-stocked shelves of high-quality merchandise.
• Operates cash register so transactions are pleasant and efficient; keep lines short.
• Identify merchandise for online sales and handle according to process/procedure.
• Marks and stocks new goods merchandise according to process/procedure.
• Greets donors at their car and unloads items; ensures a positive donation experience.
• Provide tax receipt forms to donors.
• Sorts material between donor engagements to redirect unsaleable items to waste or salvage.
• Prevent theft by staying alert and reporting suspicious activity.
• Assist with shoveling snow, replacing light bulbs, washing windows, and upkeep tasks.
• Demonstrate duties for new team members.
• Maintain store and donation area cleanliness and safety; request repairs as needed.
• Collaborate with department to maximize service opportunities and continuous improvement.
• Assist with preparing outgoing truck loads including baling, sorting, forklift operation, organizing.
