Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Administrative Specialist I in the DMV Liability Insurance Unit. You will review and interpret customer case files, prepare correspondence, and process refunds and insurance-related records.

You will handle cash balancing, post checks, respond to inquiries, and use mainframe systems (STARS, LITES, SADLS) to manage licensing and insurance data. A high school diploma or GED plus two years of related experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with two years of related administrative experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to multi-task and organize printed and electronic information.
  • Experience reviewing information to determine conclusions based on laws and regulations.
  • Experience handling monetary funds and processing payments.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer case files, preparing appropriate correspondence.
  • Enter civil penalties and restoration fees when an insurance lapse occurs.
  • Balance cash receipts and manage daily cash drawers.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers and LPA representatives via email/fax.
  • Process refunds and post checks to insurance files to keep records updated.
