Job Title:Divorce And Child Custody Attorney(Hybrid Role)

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm based in Kalamazoo, MI, is actively seeking a dedicated Family Law Attorney with a focus on divorce and child custody matters. This role is structured as a hybrid position, blending remote work with required in-office client meetings and occasional court appearances. Designed for attorneys who value flexibility and work-life balance, this opportunity allows professionals to engage in meaningful legal work without being burdened by high billable hour expectations. Ideal for solo practitioners looking to join a team-focused environment, public defenders, or prosecutors seeking a transition into family law.

Duties:

Provide strategic legal guidance and advocacy in family law matters, including divorce and child custody cases

Manage a dynamic caseload with a focus on client-centered outcomes

Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and court orders

Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with clients and attend court appearances as required

Collaborate with a legal support team, including assistants and paralegals, to efficiently progress case matters

Participate in mediation, negotiation, and litigation as needed

Requirements:

2-4 years of litigation experience, preferably in family law or closely related practice areas

Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan

Indiana-licensed attorneys in the Michiana region open to Michigan licensure are encouraged to apply

Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a supportive team environment

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple legal matters simultaneously

Empathy, patience, and professionalism in handling sensitive family law issues

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

Admission to the State Bar of Michigan (or eligible to waive in)

Skills:

Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills

Effective verbal and written communication abilities

Strong organizational and time management capabilities

Proficiency in drafting legal documents and managing client expectations

Technological aptitude to support remote and hybrid workflows

Job Location:

Hybrid work arrangement with twice-weekly in-office presence; relocation welcome but not mandatory
