Job summary

Southland Industries, a leading MEP company, seeks an experienced EH&S leader to plan, develop, and manage comprehensive safety programs across divisions in Portland, OR. You will drive audit programs, training initiatives and regulatory compliance to foster a proactive safety culture.

The role requires 10–12 years in EH&S with people management experience, CPR/First Aid certifications, and strong communication skills to propagate safety standards across all levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline.
• 10-12 years’ experience in EH&S, including people management experience.
• Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
• OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training, preferred.
• OSHA 500, CHST or ASP certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs safety audit and inspection programs to ensure compliance with EH&S requirements across regions/divisions.
• Develops, implements and maintains employee safety training programs and records; manages safety policies.
• Participates in safety strategy development for the division and ensures implementation.
• Directs investigation of all accidents, injuries, and complaints and ensures documentation is complete.
• Manages jobsite safety programs to ensure compliance and address deficiencies.
• Acts as principal safety resource for the division and determines safety equipment and supplies for jobsites.
• Directs department personnel and managers in planning specialized activities (e.g., crane lifts, confined spaces).
• Provides coaching and feedback for safety employees and manages annual performance processes.
• Manages recruitment and hiring for safety roles in division.
• Works with division leadership to shape and direct the safety program.
• Participates in acquisitions and planning of upcoming work.
