Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools is seeking a Maintenance Specialist for the district-wide facilities team. The role supports custodial and maintenance operations, including equipment repair, preventive maintenance, and responding to after-hours emergencies. First shift hours run 6:00 a.m.

to 2:30 p.m., with an eight-hour day and year-round schedule. Candidates must have a boiler operator license and a valid Minnesota license.

Qualifications

  • Boiler license required and willingness to obtain 2nd and 1st class boiler licenses as soon as permitted.
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record acceptable to district insurance.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Evidence of excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills for operation of a personal computer, energy management system and tank monitoring systems.
  • Detail oriented with ability to organize and maintain records
  • Demonstrated accurate mathematical skills
  • Customer service oriented with positive interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and orally
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with coworkers, supervisor, public, etc.
  • Ability to adapt to a continuously changing schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers interschool mail and packages daily with district vehicle; transfers materials between buildings and offsite warehouse.
  • Responds to after hours maintenance emergencies district-wide.
  • Makes scheduled repairs to maintain buildings: carpentry, painting, general maintenance and grounds.
  • Inspects and maintains HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.
  • Works with other trades on larger projects.
  • Repairs school equipment such as desks, chairs, tables, lockers.
  • Maintains lighting ballasts, switches, motors and outlets; performs plumbing repairs.
  • Maintains a variety of specialty equipment with preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates grounds maintenance duties: snow removal, mowing, trimming, debris cleanup.
  • Collaborates with other Maintenance Specialists on deliveries, shipping and receiving.
  • Operates boilers, water heaters, compressors and other pressure vessels; tests chemical levels.
  • Makes emergency repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems; helps update inventory.
  • Assists other specialists and custodial personnel as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
