Job summary

Kansas City School District is seeking an Assistant Director of Custodial Services to oversee district-wide custodial operations across KCPS facilities. You will supervise area managers, coordinate staffing, and ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety, and service in all buildings.

In this role you will partner with school and district leaders, drive training, manage budgets, and develop performance metrics to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in custodial operations, facilities management, or a related field.
• Extensive knowledge of custodial operations, cleaning methods, sanitation standards, custodial equipment, chemical handling, and industry best practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS or work-order management software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in leading and overseeing district-wide custodial operations.
• Serve as department lead in the Director's absence.
• Support and supervise Custodial Area Managers, Warehouse Supervisor, and assigned staff.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, evaluate, and retain custodial staff.
• Address employee performance and employee relations matters in accordance with district policies and labor agreements.
• Serve as the primary liaison between school administrators and Custodial Services, responding promptly to operational concerns.
• Establish and enforce district standards for cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and service delivery.
• Conduct building inspections, quality audits, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Coordinate custodial staffing and support for events, emergencies, and special projects; collaborate with Facilities and district departments to meet building-service needs.
• Partner with Facilities and Maintenance to address building needs impacting custodial operations.
• Oversee work-order processes and ensure timely completion of custodial service requests.
• Manage custodial supplies, equipment, warehouse operations, and vendor performance.
• Develop and monitor operational performance metrics and service-level outcomes.
• Develop and deliver training on custodial procedures, equipment use, safety practices, and district expectations.
• Assist with departmental budget planning, monitoring, and resource allocation.
• Evaluate and recommend equipment, products, and technologies that improve efficiency, safety, and service quality.
• Ensure compliance with state and local regulations, and district policies.
• Lead safety audits, incident reviews, and corrective-action processes.
• Prepare reports and operational updates for district leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of department and district goals.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Facilities Management, Operations Management, or a related field
