Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance to support the Director in planning and overseeing district facilities, maintenance operations, and safety compliance. The role leads staff, manages work orders, coordinates capital projects, and ensures buildings, grounds, and access systems are secure.

You will collaborate with administrators, contractors, and regulators, and may oversee operations in the Director’s absence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management or related field.
• Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience overseeing facility operations, maintenance staff, contractors, or skilled trades personnel.
• Experience with CMMS and other automated work‑order systems.
• Experience developing and managing preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience supporting or managing capital improvement, renovation, construction, or facility renewal projects.
• Must possess a Valid Driver’s License and maintain a clean motor vehicle record.
• Ability to travel between District locations and respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours.

Responsibilities

• Oversee district facilities and maintenance operations, including building systems and grounds.
• Coordinate staffing, equipment, materials, contracted services, and work priorities.
• Lead the district’s work‑order system, ensuring timely intake, routing, tracking, completion, and reporting.
• Conduct facility assessments and identify maintenance, repair, replacement, and modernization needs.
• Manage maintenance inventory, tools, equipment, keys, access‑control systems, and vehicles.
• Support long‑range facility planning and ongoing training on safety requirements.
