Job summary

Leidos in New Jersey is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. You will work directly with clients to ensure high-quality outcomes and grow your expertise in NESC, pole modeling, and electrical power calculations.

This role involves field and office work, occasional travel within New Jersey, and collaboration with a diverse team to develop comprehensive design packages and support construction.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required.
• Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred).
• Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design, including Customer interaction and Process documentation
• Experience with utility reliability projects
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some travel could be anticipated (travel reimbursed)
• Willingness to perform both field and office work; Some field data collection may be required
• Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver’s license, as some travel is expected

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
• Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, including work permits, easements, and ROW applications
