Job summary

FirstEnergy in Marion, OH, seeks a Distribution Designer to manage designed construction, relocation, and new business work for distribution. You will use design standards, software, and regulatory knowledge while serving as a main contact through projects.

The role is on-site at the Marion Service Center with travel to various locations and emergency support responsibilities. Strong communication and flexibility are essential.

Qualifications

• Two to four-year degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related discipline, 0–2 years related work experience.
• Or High School / equivalent with minimum 2 years related work experience in utility design.
• Pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) employment test.
• Strong communication ability to guide decision-making or consensus, and diffuse challenging situations.
• Willing to seek guidance to fill gaps in understanding.

Responsibilities

• Designs for single- and 3-phase overhead and underground facilities to serve residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
• Support job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and closeout documentation.
• Facilitate billing for line extension and relocation work, including non-routine scenarios.
• Handle OMS follow-up requests, outages, streetlight upgrades, and related inspections.
• Acquire permits with railroad, DOT, and municipal jurisdictions.
• Collaborate to document easements for line extensions and highway relocations.
• Maintain compliant records for technical reports and information systems.
• Travel to FirstEnergy sites and customer locations as required.
• Provide assistance during emergencies and storm-related events.
