Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Distribution Designer to handle designed construction, relocation, and new business work for the Distribution function. This on-site role at the Weirton Service Center requires utilizing design standards and regulatory requirements while serving interior and external customers throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in a technical discipline is required.
• OR High School or equivalent and minimum 2 to 5 years related work experience in utility design.
• Pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) employment test
• Strong communication ability to guide decision-making or consensus, negotiate outcomes, and diffuse challenging situations.
• Willing to seek guidance to fill gaps in understanding.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage shifting priorities.
• Able to interpret complex written and visual information (procedures, manuals, drawings, schematics).
• Proficiency in software applications: Microsoft Office, SAP, CREWS, OMS, DDS.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
• Utilizing FirstEnergy construction standards and engineering practices to complete single- and 3-phase overhead and underground designs to serve residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
• Supporting job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and job closeout functions including material review and paperwork verification.
• Facilitating billing functions for line extension and relocation work, including billing recommendations in non-routine scenarios.
• Facilitating completion of OMS follow-up requests, inspections/maintenance, streetlight installation and replacement, claims, and aerial patrol findings.
• Acquiring permits related to railroad, DOT, and municipality road right-of-way.
• Collaborating with customers to secure and document easements for line extensions and highway relocation work.
• Updating and maintaining compliant records to support technical reports, metrics, and information systems.
• Traveling to various off-site locations and FirstEnergy offices as required.
• Providing ongoing assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities.
