Job summary

Dropbox is seeking a Software Engineer on the Metadata team to design and operate large-scale distributed databases used by our services. You will work on replication, caching, and transactional databases, guaranteeing latency, durability, and consistency for millions of users.

You’ll write Go and Rust for performance-critical systems, collaborate across Infrastructure and Product teams, and contribute to mid- to long-term roadmaps while growing into technical leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems.
• Experience building database platforms or large-scale storage infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, or C++ with familiarity in consensus systems.
• Experience operating production services and participating in on-call rotations.
• Strong debugging and performance analysis skills and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain distributed database systems with low latency and strong consistency.
• Implement replication, consensus, and caching to meet availability goals.
• Operate production systems and participate in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with infra and product teams to roadmap future use cases.
• Contribute to design reviews, postmortems, and reliability improvements.
• Write high-quality Go and Rust code for performance-critical systems.
