Job summary

BairesDev is seeking a Staff Engineer (Distributed Systems) to design and implement robust, scalable services that rely on consensus, replication, and fault tolerance. You will lead architecture, drive migrations, and optimize performance across compute, storage, and network layers.

You will mentor teams, set standards for durability and consistency, and collaborate with a global, 100% remote engineering community. Proficiency in Go, Java, or Rust, and strong English are required.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software engineering focusing on distributed systems.
• Expertise in consensus algorithms (Raft or Paxos).
• Proficient in Go, Java, or Rust.
• Strong understanding of system design principles, replication, partitioning, and fault tolerance.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement robust distributed services centered on consensus, replication, and fault tolerance.
• Lead the technical strategy for complex system migrations and evolution of core backend infrastructure.
• Analyze and optimize system performance across compute, storage, and network layers to minimize resource waste.
• Define organizational standards for operational excellence, including consistency models and durability patterns.
• Resolve high-impact technical challenges spanning multiple services, ensuring system-level correctness.
• Mentor engineering teams and drive technical direction for distributed architecture and system design.
