Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking an experienced Discipline Operations Manager I to lead a discipline subgroup, align staffing and schedules, and drive performance for Total Project Success for clients.

You will partner with peers and the Discipline Operations Director to allocate hours across projects, mentor team members, and ensure QA/QC and professional standards are met. The role spans staffing, process improvements, and client coordination.

Qualifications

• Ten years of practical experience in a technical discipline.
• Five years in a consulting engineering firm.
• Active and up-to-date NCEES council record, if applicable.
• Experience managing small to mid-scale projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead a discipline subgroup with staffing, scheduling, and QA/QC.
• Partner with other Discipline Operations Managers to allocate weekly hours and staff.
• Mentor subgroup members and drive growth, accountability, and collaboration.
• Manage performance expectations, provide feedback, and address gaps.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure staffing and skill mix; support recruiting and onboarding.
• Review timesheets and expenses; support budgeting and leadership decisions.
• Develop employee development plans and mentorship programs.
• Engage with clients, contractors, and manufacturers; perform engineer/PM responsibilities as needed.
