Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking an experienced Discipline Operations Manager I to lead a discipline subgroup, align staffing and schedules, and drive performance for Total Project Success across client projects.

The role emphasizes mentoring, staffing optimization, QA/QC oversight, and collaboration with Project Managers and the Discipline Operations Director. Opportunity for ownership of processes and cross-location coordination.

Qualifications

• 10 years of practical experience in one of the firm's technical disciplines.
• 5 years in a consulting engineering firm.
• Proficient within the discipline of expertise.
• Active and up to date in NCEES council record, if applicable.
• Experience managing projects of small to mid-scale scope and complexity.

Responsibilities

• Allocate weekly hours and staff across projects with Discipline Operations Managers and Director.
• Mentor subgroup members and cultivate growth, accountability, and collaboration.
• Manage performance expectations, provide feedback, and conduct evaluations.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure staffing and skill mix; support recruiting and onboarding.
• Oversee QA/QC execution and ensure design services meet standards and client requirements.
• Provide guidance on complex design issues and publish procedures with the Technical Discipline Leader.
• Foster engagement and interdisciplinary coordination across locations; address conflicts.
• Develop employee development plans and mentorship programs.
• Maintain client, contractor, and manufacturer relationships and participate in engineer/PM duties as needed.
