SSR, a leading engineering design, consulting, and planning firm, seeks a Discipline Operations Manager I to lead a discipline sub-group, align staffing, raise technical quality, and drive performance for Total Project Success. You will partner with discipline leaders to allocate hours, mentor staff, and ensure QA/QC standards.

The role emphasizes talent development, client coordination, and efficient operations across multiple locations, with a focus on accountability and collaboration.

Qualifications

• A registered technical professional with at least 10 years of practical discipline experience.
• 5 years of experience in a consulting engineering firm.
• Proficient within the discipline of expertise.
• Active NCEES council record, if applicable.
• Experience managing projects of small to mid-scale scope and complexity.
• Knowledge of contracts, project management, resource allocation, and KPI fundamentals for a technical unit.

Responsibilities

• Allocate weekly hours and staff across projects; partner with Discipline Operations Director.
• Direct and mentor sub-group members; cultivate growth, accountability, and collaboration.
• Manage performance—set expectations, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, and address gaps.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure staffing and skill mix; support recruiting and onboarding.
• Ensure design services meet professional standards and client requirements; oversee QA/QC execution.
• Resolve atypical or complex design issues; provide guidance to teams and clients.
• Coordinate with the Technical Discipline Leader to implement process improvements and standards; publish procedures.
• Foster engagement within the sub-group and across locations; ensure cross-disciplinary coordination.
