Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR) seeks a Discipline Operations Manager I to lead a discipline subgroup, align staffing and schedules, raise technical quality, and drive performance toward Total Project Success for clients.

You will allocate hours, mentor staff, collaborate with project managers, oversee QA/QC, resolve complex design issues, and maintain strong client relations while ensuring in-office presence across locations and ongoing professional development for team members.

Qualifications

• Registered professional or technical professional with 10+ years in a technical discipline.
• 5 years of experience in a consulting engineering firm.
• Proficient within the discipline of expertise.
• Active and up to date in NCEES council record.
• Experience managing projects of small to mid-scale scope and complexity.

Responsibilities

• Allocate weekly hours and staff across projects.
• Guide, direct, and mentor subgroup members; foster growth and accountability.
• Manage performance expectations; conduct evaluations and address gaps.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure staffing and skill mix; support recruiting.
• Ensure design services meet standards; oversee subgroup QA/QC.
• Resolve atypical or complex design issues; provide expert guidance to teams and clients.
• Coordinate with Technical Discipline Leader to implement process improvements.
