Job Description And Duties

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE. Under supervision, the Disability Insurance (DI) Services Representative will determine claimant eligibility for State Disability Insurance (SDI) Program benefits including Disability Insurance, Paid Family Leave, and Nonindustrial Disability; will conduct fact-finding interviews, respond to inquiries, and perform claim processing activities in accordance with laws, regulations, rules and policies; will provide prompt, accurate and courteous customer service; may develop and provide training that emphasizes the consistent application of law, regulation, policy and procedures, appropriate medical duration control techniques, program integrity practices and processes, will record and maintain overpayment (OP) documents in accordance with current over-payment policies and procedures, process OPs, conduct follow up collection actions for both claimant and third party overpayments with appropriate documentation. May act as an expert witness before the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. Must comply with office security requirements. Travel and/or overtime may be required.

EXPECTATION – MISSION, GOALS

The incumbent contributes toward the growth of the DI Branch into a customer-focused service organization by following and applying SDI Branch cultural principles. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the principles of the SDI Branch programs. Protect program integrity by identifying and reporting any suspected fraudulent claims and/or activities. This position allows for a hybrid telework schedule, which is subject to change under EDD’s telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California in order to telework. Employees may be required to report to their headquarters office as needed for operational needs, required scheduled in office days associated with the hybrid schedule, and other activities including but not limited to new employee training.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month.
