Job summary

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is seeking a Director of Self-Perform Operations to build and lead a new self-perform division in Grand Rapids. You will own growth, performance, and profitability, establishing people, processes, and standards for long-term success.

Reporting to the COO, you will partner with Preconstruction, Operations, and Field Leadership to identify opportunities, secure work, and deliver exceptional results, shaping a trusted, profitable unit across O-A-K projects.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in commercial construction field operations.
• 5+ years leading a self-perform division or similar business unit with P&L responsibility.
• Experience in building, managing, and scheduling multiple crews across concurrent projects.
• Strong understanding of labor tracking, workforce planning, productivity, and job cost reporting.
• Demonstrated leadership to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
• Experience delivering projects in occupied environments (K-12, higher education, healthcare, etc.).
• Knowledge of ICRA requirements and client-facing project delivery.
• Prevailing wage and certified payroll administration on public-sector projects.
• OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500 preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent leadership experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of the self-perform division, including planning, staffing, operations, and financial performance.
• Own and manage division P&L, budgets, revenue goals, and profitability targets.
• Recruit, hire, and mentor superintendents, PMs/estimators, foremen, and crafts.
• Schedule and deploy crews across multiple active jobsites, maximize productivity.
• Establish and enforce safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping standards.
• Monitor performance and report revenue, labor productivity, utilization, backlog, and safety metrics.
• Identify opportunities with Preconstruction; develop scopes and pricing strategies.
• Lead procurement efforts and support transparent project delivery.
• Collaborate with Safety, HR, Accounting, and Equipment teams for division support.
• Represent the company in client meetings and with trade partners.
