Job summary

Teladoc Health is seeking a Director of Payroll to lead the U.S. and Canadian payroll operations for ~3,000 employees.

You will oversee payroll governance, systems optimization (Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Compensation), and vendor management while driving accuracy and compliance. The role manages a payroll team, partners with HR, Finance, Tax, Legal, and external vendors to ensure efficient processes, strong controls, and scalable, compliant payroll operations across the

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10+ years of progressive payroll experience including complex, multi-state payroll operations.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing payroll professionals.
• Experience leading multi-state and Canadian payroll operations.
• Experience overseeing payroll compliance and internal controls.
• Demonstrated experience managing payroll operations across diverse employee groups and pay structures.
• Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax requirements, wage and hour compliance, and payroll controls.
• Experience partnering with Accounting, Finance, Tax, HR, and external vendors.
• Proven track record of process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of U.S. and Canadian payroll operations with accurate, timely processing and reporting.
• Direct and develop a payroll team including managers and analysts with performance management and succession planning.
• Establish and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls for SOX compliance.
• Serve as the primary owner and SME for payroll processes and systems.
• Partner with HRIS and technical teams on Workday configurations and deployments across modules.
• Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations in the U.S. and Canada.
• Oversee tax filings, reconciliations, and account maintenance with vendors and tax agencies.
• Collaborate with Stock Administration, Finance, and Accounting on equity-based compensation processing.
• Lead payroll involvement in audits (SOX, 401(k), workers’ comp, etc.).
• Oversee month-, quarter-, and year-end close activities and monitoring of service delivery metrics.
• Drive automation, standardization, and scalability through continuous improvement.
• Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues and vendor management.
• Support acquisitions and system implementations impacting payroll.
• Maintain governance, documentation, and control frameworks.
