Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Director of Payer Innovation and Strategy to lead AI-focused consulting engagements remotely from anywhere in the U.S. In this role, you will translate payer business problems into executable AI engagements and manage cross-functional delivery teams.

The position requires deep payer domain expertise, senior-level client leadership, and collaboration across data science, clinical operations, and engineering. Travel up to 30–40% may be required based on client needs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in management consulting, professional services, health plan transformation, business operations, technology delivery, analytics, or AI-enabled solution delivery.
• 7+ years of experience leading day-to-day delivery of complex, multi-workstream client engagements.
• 5+ years of payer domain expertise in core areas such as claims, utilization management, prior authorization, care management, risk adjustment, quality, network management, or member services.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day delivery of AI consulting engagements with clear milestones and acceptance criteria.
• Serve as the primary client contact and facilitate workshops, status meetings, and decision forums.
• Translate payer business problems into prioritized AI use cases and value hypotheses.
