Job summary

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School in Austin, TX seeks an experienced Director of Student Wellness to lead wellbeing initiatives for grades 9–12.

The role oversees the Upper School counseling team, designs proactive wellbeing programming, and collaborates with the Health Office to support the whole student. The position is full-time, exempt, in-person, and year-round, reporting to the Head of Upper School.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, School Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field required; doctoral degree preferred.
• Licensed or certified in a relevant field (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist, or School Counselor certification) preferred.
• 7–10 years of experience in student support, counseling, or wellbeing programming, with substantial school-based experience.
• Experience designing or leading proactive wellbeing programming for a broad student population.
• Experience developing or leading an advisory or mentorship program; training faculty is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership in support of student wellbeing and balance within the Upper School (Grades 9–12).
• Set vision and long-range priorities for a healthy Upper School experience balancing academics, faith, rest, and relationships.
• Lead the Upper School counseling team and coordinate wellbeing programming with the Health Office.
• Coordinate with the Health Office and school nurse on physical health matters intersecting with wellbeing.
• Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders across counseling, academics, athletics, and family life.
• Grow cross-divisional wellbeing programming and ensure coherence with Lower/Middle School counselors.
