Job summary

St. Michael's Prep in Austin, TX seeks an experienced Director of Student Wellness to lead the Upper School counseling and wellbeing agenda.

You will champion a healthy balance of academics, faith, and life for students in grades 9–12 while guiding a team of counselors and coordinating with the Health Office. The role requires a master’s in a relevant field (doctorate preferred), 7–10 years of school-based experience, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
• Licensed or certified in a relevant field is preferred.
• 7–10 years in student support, counseling, or wellbeing in a school setting.
• Experience designing proactive wellbeing programming for a broad student population.
• Experience leading advisory or mentorship programs with faculty training.
• Leadership experience managing counseling staff, budgets, and operations.
• Familiarity with school laws related to student support (FERPA, mandated reporting).
• Collaborative leadership aligned with the school's mission and Catholic teaching.
• Strong communication with students, families, and colleagues on wellbeing topics.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Upper School counseling and wellness programs, supervising counselors and coordinating universal wellbeing.
• Develop and maintain wellbeing programming, referral pathways, and support protocols.
• Lead advisory programs and ensure a trusted adult connection for every student.
• Schedule and workload management for proactive and responsive student support.
• Collaborate with Lower/Middle School counselors for cross-division alignment.
• Provide training for faculty advisors on wellbeing topics and reflective practice.
