Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Student Wellness and Engagement provides strategic leadership for the College's comprehensive student engagement, wellness promotion, belonging, recreation and fitness, leadership development, and campus culture initiatives. The Director develops an integrated approach to creating opportunities for students to connect, become involved, develop as leaders, support their well-being, and build a strong sense of belonging and connection to the College.

The Director provides vision and oversight for student organizations and Student Government Association (SGA), leadership development, recreation and fitness, campus traditions, heritage and cultural celebrations, welcome and transition programs, wellness education and prevention, and other co-curricular and community-building initiatives. Working collaboratively with campus and community partners, the Director advances a welcoming, inclusive, and health-promoting campus culture that celebrates the diversity of the College community, strengthens students' sense of belonging, and ensures opportunities extend across College locations and instructional sites.

Operating within the College's integrated student-support framework, the Director works closely with the Dean of Students, Academic Advising, programs offered at other locations, Academic Affairs, and other partners to connect engagement and wellness efforts with broader student support and success strategies. The Director supervises professional staff responsible for student engagement, wellness promotion, recreation, belonging, leadership development, and campus life and provides leadership for strategic planning, assessment, budgets, partnerships, and continuous improvement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Provide strategic leadership for the College's student engagement, wellness promotion, belonging, leadership development, recreation and fitness, and campus culture initiatives to advance student success, persistence, and completion.
• Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive College-wide strategy that integrates student engagement, wellness promotion, leadership development, recreation, and belonging across College locations and instructional sites.
• Lead the development of a health-promoting campus culture through wellness education, prevention, outreach, resource awareness, and other initiatives supporting holistic student well-being.
• Provide strategic oversight for student organizations, SGA, student leadership, civic and community engagement, campus traditions, heritage and cultural celebrations, welcome and transition experiences, and other inclusive co-curricular programs that celebrate the diversity of the College community and strengthen connection and belonging.
• Provide strategic oversight for a comprehensive year-round calendar of student engagement, wellness, cultural, recreational, leadership, and community-building initiatives that promote collaboration and an integrated student experience.
• Oversee recreation and fitness initiatives that promote student well-being, participation, connection, and institutional pride.
• Collaborate with Student Counseling Services and other campus partners to coordinate wellness education, prevention, outreach, and referral pathways while maintaining clear distinctions between wellness promotion and clinical services.
• Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and evaluation for professional staff responsible for student engagement, wellness promotion, recreation and fitness, belonging, leadership development, and campus life.
• Leverage technology and emerging tools to expand student engagement, communication, access, and connection, and provide functional leadership for the evaluation, implementation, and effective use of technology solutions that support the department's programs and services.
• Establish measurable outcomes and use participation data, assessment findings, institutional metrics, and student feedback to evaluate effectiveness, identify gaps, and guide continuous improvement.
• Develop and oversee departmental budgets, grants, contracts, policies, procedures, and operational plans in accordance with applicable requirements and College policies.
• Build collaborative partnerships across the College and community that advance an integrated approach to student engagement, wellness, belonging, and student success.
• Represent the College on institutional committees, community partnerships, and professional organizations and perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Student Development, Health Promotion, Recreation Administration, Education, Social Work, or a closely related field.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs, student engagement, wellness or health promotion, recreation, student development, or related higher education administration.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience supervising and developing professional staff.
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive student engagement, wellness promotion, prevention, student development, or related initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, budget management, assessment, and the use of data to evaluate programs and support continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of student development, wellness promotion, and evidence-based practices that foster student engagement, belonging, well-being, and success.
• Demonstrated ability to provide collaborative leadership, build effective partnerships, communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, and manage multiple institutional priorities.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel regularly between College locations.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working in a community college or public higher education environment.
• Experience providing leadership for college-wide student engagement, wellness promotion, recreation, student life, or related student success initiatives.
• Experience implementing a health-promoting campus framework or developing prevention and awareness initiatives related to student well-being.
• Experience leading or assessing initiatives related to student belonging, leadership development, student organizations, campus climate, or co-curricular learning.
• Experience securing or managing grants and/or working in a unionized environment.
• Experience using or implementing technology and digital platforms to support student engagement, wellness, communication, assessment, or service delivery.
