The role oversees student organizations, leadership development, and campus traditions, working with campus partners to create a health-promoting, inclusive environment and to connect students to services and success opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Admin, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or related higher education administration.
  • Three years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
  • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, assessment, and data-driven improvement.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel between College locations.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Student Wellness and Engagement provides strategicleadership for the College's comprehensive student engagement,wellness promotion, belonging, recreation and fitness, leadershipdevelopment, and campus culture initiatives. The Director developsan integrated approach to creating opportunities for students toconnect, become involved, develop as leaders, support theirwell-being, and build a strong sense of belonging and connection tothe College.

The Director provides vision and oversight for studentorganizations and Student Government Association (SGA), leadershipdevelopment, recreation and fitness, campus traditions, heritageand cultural celebrations, welcome and transition programs,wellness education and prevention, and other co-curricular andcommunity-building initiatives. Working collaboratively with campusand community partners, the Director advances a welcoming,inclusive, and health-promoting campus culture that celebrates thediversity of the College community, strengthens students' sense ofbelonging, and ensures opportunities extend across Collegelocations and instructional sites.

Operating within the College's integrated student-supportframework, the Director works closely with the Dean of Students,Academic Advising, programs offered at other locations, AcademicAffairs, and other partners to connect engagement and wellnessefforts with broader student support and success strategies. TheDirector supervises professional staff responsible for studentengagement, wellness promotion, recreation, belonging, leadershipdevelopment, and campus life and provides leadership for strategicplanning, assessment, budgets, partnerships, and continuousimprovement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  1. Provide strategic leadership for the College's studentengagement, wellness promotion, belonging, leadership development,recreation and fitness, and campus culture initiatives to advancestudent success, persistence, and completion.
  2. Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive College-widestrategy that integrates student engagement, wellness promotion,leadership development, recreation, and belonging across Collegelocations and instructional sites.
  3. Lead the development of a health-promoting campus culturethrough wellness education, prevention, outreach, resourceawareness, and other initiatives supporting holistic studentwell-being.
  4. Provide strategic oversight for student organizations, SGA,student leadership, civic and community engagement, campustraditions, heritage and cultural celebrations, welcome andtransition experiences, and other inclusive co-curricular programsthat celebrate the diversity of the College community andstrengthen connection and belonging.
  5. Provide strategic oversight for a comprehensive year-roundcalendar of student engagement, wellness, cultural, recreational,leadership, and community-building initiatives that promotecollaboration and an integrated student experience.
  6. Oversee recreation and fitness initiatives that promote studentwell-being, participation, connection, and institutionalpride.
  7. Collaborate with Student Counseling Services and other campuspartners to coordinate wellness education, prevention, outreach,and referral pathways while maintaining clear distinctions betweenwellness promotion and clinical services.
  8. Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and evaluation forprofessional staff responsible for student engagement, wellnesspromotion, recreation and fitness, belonging, leadershipdevelopment, and campus life.
  9. Leverage technology and emerging tools to expand studentengagement, communication, access, and connection, and providefunctional leadership for the evaluation, implementation, andeffective use of technology solutions that support the department'sprograms and services.
  10. Establish measurable outcomes and use participation data,assessment findings, institutional metrics, and student feedback toevaluate effectiveness, identify gaps, and guide continuousimprovement.
  11. Develop and oversee departmental budgets, grants, contracts,policies, procedures, and operational plans in accordance withapplicable requirements and College policies.
  12. Build collaborative partnerships across the College andcommunity that advance an integrated approach to studentengagement, wellness, belonging, and student success.
  13. Represent the College on institutional committees, communitypartnerships, and professional organizations and perform otherduties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, StudentAffairs, Student Development, Health Promotion, RecreationAdministration, Education, Social Work, or a closely relatedfield.
  2. Five (5) years of progressively responsible professionalexperience in student affairs, student engagement, wellness orhealth promotion, recreation, student development, or relatedhigher education administration.
  3. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experiencesupervising and developing professional staff.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessingcomprehensive student engagement, wellness promotion, prevention,student development, or related initiatives.
  5. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, budgetmanagement, assessment, and the use of data to evaluate programsand support continuous improvement.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of student development, wellnesspromotion, and evidence-based practices that foster studentengagement, belonging, well-being, and success.
  7. Demonstrated ability to provide collaborative leadership, buildeffective partnerships, communicate effectively with diverseconstituencies, and manage multiple institutional priorities.
  8. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travelregularly between College locations.
  9. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience working in a community college or public highereducation environment.
  2. Experience providing leadership for college-wide studentengagement, wellness promotion, recreation, student life, orrelated student success initiatives.
  3. Experience implementing a health-promoting campus framework ordeveloping prevention and awareness initiatives related to studentwell-being.
  4. Experience leading or assessing initiatives related to studentbelonging, leadership development, student organizations, campusclimate, or co-curricular learning.
  5. Experience securing or managing grants and/or working in aunionized environment.
  6. Experience using or implementing technology and digitalplatforms to support student engagement, wellness, communication,assessment, or service delivery.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position. Annual Salary range of $100,000 -$104,000, dependent onqualifications. Includes participation in a comprehensive employeebenefits program and the option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
