Job summary

Southern University at New Orleans seeks a Bursar/Director of Student Accounts to oversee billing, receivables, collections, and refunds. The role ensures accurate, compliant handling of student charges and payment plans, working with Finance, Financial Aid, Registrar, and other offices.

The director will supervise the Accounts Receivable Coordinator and student workers and drive process improvements. Reporting to the Comptroller, this exempt, full-time position emphasizes service excellence,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and at least three years in student financial services or related area.
• Experience supervising or leading a team in a financial-services environment.
• Knowledge of FERPA and Title IV requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations of Student Accounts including billing, receivables, collections, and refunds.
• Ensure accurate assessment of tuition, fees, room, and board; maintain billing controls.
• Develop procedures and internal controls to promote accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
• Monitor balances, aging, payment arrangements, and collection activity; manage external agencies as needed.
• Collaborate with Comptroller's office to reconcile accounts and ensure reporting accuracy.
• Lead Banner student-account functions and related payment platforms; supervise staff.
