Job summary

City of East Point is seeking a seasoned leader to plan, organize, and direct the Solid Waste Management Department under the City Manager. The role requires supervising staff, coordinating routes, and ensuring regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local levels.

The ideal candidate will drive the department’s work plan, budget, and policy development, while representing the city in community meetings and handling inquiries from citizens.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Solid Waste Management or related field; with at least five (5) years in a supervisory role.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and control the activities of the Solid Waste Management Department under the City Manager.
• Supervise sanitation workers, assign routes, conduct evaluations, and review work.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and transportation rules and regulations.
• Develop department work plan, goals, and objectives; assign work activities and monitor progress.
• Represent the department in community meetings and respond to citizen inquiries and complaints.
• Evaluate new solid waste management options and implement operational changes as needed.
• Oversee policy development, budget preparation, and procurement for department assets.
• Maintain sanitation equipment and coordinate support for other city departments.
