Job summary

The City of East Point, GA is seeking a seasoned Solid Waste Director to plan, organize and oversee the Waste Management Department under the City Manager’s supervision.

The role directs sanitation operations, ensures regulatory compliance, manages the department budget, and leads a team of supervisors and workers. Strong leadership, strategic planning and communication skills are essential for improving service and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Ten years of experience in Solid Waste Management or related field.
• At least five years in a supervisory role.
• Equivalency of education and experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct and control the Solid Waste Management Department.
• Supervise sanitation workers and assign routes and schedules.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations.
• Develop and implement department work plans, goals and objectives.
• Manage budgets, expenditures and revenue for the Enterprise Fund.
• Represent the department in community meetings and respond to inquiries.
• Evaluate new waste management options and implement changes as needed.
• Oversee policy development and staff communications.
• Coordinate purchasing and maintain equipment inventories.
• Ensure safety and educate staff on hazards and OSHA/Georgia DOT laws.
