Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker in Towson, MD is seeking an Engineering Director, Product Development to lead a team of Engineering Managers and drive a portfolio of consumer tool programs from concept through launch.

You will define priorities, budgets and KPIs, partner cross-functionally, and build operating rhythms that ensure on-time, within-cost delivery. A Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with 15+ years in product development or engineering leadership is required; Master’s or PhD preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in product development or engineering leadership.
• Master’s or PhD preferred.
• Proven experience leading teams through the full new product development lifecycle from concept through launch.
• Strong ability to influence cross-functional teams and align stakeholders on priorities, resources, and timelines.
• Experience with continuous improvement, engineering process discipline, and lessons learned.
• Knowledge of international intellectual property, compliance, and safety requirements for consumer product development.
• Technical depth in design for manufacturability, reliability, quality, serviceability, Six Sigma, DOE, root-cause analysis, GD&T, FMEAs, FRACAS, and related engineering tools.
• Willingness to travel internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 3–4 Engineering Managers supporting product development initiatives.
• Drive execution across a portfolio of programs to meet quality, performance, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Define, cascade, and track priorities, KPIs, and budgets across the organization.
• Partner cross-functionally to allocate resources and ensure alignment on requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
• Build strong operating rhythms that drive accountability across supporting functions.
• Foster a culture of functional excellence, continuous learning, and strong people development.
• Ensure team members receive mentorship, training, and growth opportunities.
• Approve the start of Design Confirmation, Supplier Confirmation, and Manufacturing Confirmation Builds.
• Identify risks early and implement mitigation plans to keep programs on track.
• Support initiatives across new product development, value improvement, warranty, compliance, and sustainability.
