Position: Director of Nursing - Intermediate Care Unit | Location: Petersburg, VA

Organization: Southside Medical Center

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Nurse Director is responsible for the integration, facilitation, and coordination of administrative and clinical practice for the assigned nursing unit(s), with twenty-four hour accountability. Provides management and clinical support to other nursing units and hospital-wide as required. Serves as a professional role model, mentor, and clinical resource/educator for nurses and other healthcare team members. Develops unit goals and objectives with staff based on analysis of clinical and managerial processes to improve patient outcomes and foster a culture of excellence. Acts as the unit's representative and liaison to internal and external customers. Participates in unit budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis/reporting. Contributes to product line development in collaboration with the clinical value analysis team (CVAT) and materials management team.

Engages in professional development activities and participates in hospital-wide committees.

Employment Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree (MSN preferred) is required. Must hold a current RN license from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or be awaiting reciprocity.
• Certification in a nursing specialty or leadership preferred.
• Membership in a professional organization preferred.
• Must maintain current CPR certification.
• Requires knowledge of organization and operation of a patient care unit, nursing care techniques, and methods, generally acquired through 3-5 years of professional nursing experience with increasing responsibilities.
• Broad knowledge of clinical, psychological, and pathophysiological theories related to nursing diagnosis and treatment. Ability to perform a range of nursing techniques, including complex and non-routine procedures.
• Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience involving financial management and personnel supervision is preferred.
