Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) supervises nursing services in a correctional setting operating 24/7. Responsibilities include supervising nursing staff, ensuring patient needs are met, evaluating care quality, planning work for units, coordinating with other departments, and working with leadership to meet contractual and performance goals.

Minimum Requirements / Preferences

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred
• Licensed to practice in the state; board-certified or eligible; experience with adult populations
• Correctional healthcare certification (e.g., CCHP, CCHP-RN) preferred
• At least 3 years’ clinical experience; correctional experience preferred
• Management experience preferred; knowledge of accreditation standards and quality improvement is a plus

Essential Functions

• Utilize systematic approaches to meet individual health needs
• Provide oversight, supervise staff, and ensure effective patient care
• Evaluate care processes, produce reports, and identify improvement opportunities
• Participate in audits, compliance, and quality initiatives
• Support recruitment, onboarding, staff development, and regulatory compliance
• Develop staffing schedules, conduct staff meetings, and coordinate clinical activities
• Participate in committees and special projects as assigned
